evan's story
Built for the Love of Training
My conscious life has always involved some sort of sport or training. From AFL and athletics to soccer, basketball, rugby league, touch football, golf, mountain biking and weightlifting, I have always been driven by the challenge of getting stronger, fitter and better prepared.

Like many athletes, I learnt some lessons the hard way. Early injuries caused by poor preparation and load management showed me just how important structured training really is.
Those experiences ultimately shaped my coaching philosophy and continue to drive my passion for helping others train smarter, stay healthy and perform at their best.

The Story Behind the Coach
2019

First Introduction To Exercise Science
My first exercise science class was a turning point. I loved learning about performance, anatomy, and physiology, and it opened my eyes to the science behind training.
This was also when I first started training in the gym properly. I could barely bench 40kg when I started and spent my first few years following generic bodybuilding-style programs. Despite all the effort, I was still dealing with injuries and quickly realised that hard work alone wasn't enough. Training needed structure and direction.

Turning Passion Into Education
I began studying Exercise Physiology at the University of Canberra to better understand how the body works and how people can improve performance safely and effectively.
Around the same time, I underwent major surgery to remove a bone spur from my knee that had been causing pain for more than two years. While it was a challenging period, it reinforced the importance of proper preparation, rehabilitation, and long-term thinking when it comes to training.

PUTTING THEORY INTO PRACTICE
After completing the university prerequisites for my Personal Training certification, I started working as a Personal Trainer and floor staff at Anytime Fitness.
I also completed my first university placement at S7 Strength and Conditioning, working in an environment focused on helping athletes and motivated individuals achieve their goals. This was where I began applying the science I was learning to real people in real-world situations.

BUILDING A CAREER IN PERFORMANCE
I began working full-time as an Exercise Physiologist and was appointed Head of Performance at a local rugby union club.
Both opportunities accelerated my development as a coach and gave me the chance to work with a wide range of athletes and individuals. They also helped build the confidence and practical experience that continue to shape the EHT coaching approach today.
Philosophy
Performance built through discipline and passion
Performance is everything. Discipline keeps you consistent; passion lets you enjoy it. You need both for the best long-term outcome.

Teamwork
Evan Hill Trains coaching is a team effort. Coach and client work together to create the best possible outcome. Your input is always valued so your training can be tailored to your goals, circumstances and preferences.
Having spent my life in team environments, creating strong relationships and genuine collaboration is an important part of my coaching approach.
Continuous development
Evan Hill Trains' science-based approach means there will never be dead ends or plateaus. Nothing happens by luck and programs are designed to create long-term growth rather than short-term fixes.
I pride myself on being a lifelong learner and am constantly looking to improve my understanding of training, performance, recovery, and athletic development. Everything I do must be underpinned by concrete science, practical experience, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. The goal is simple: continue learning so I can continue delivering better outcomes for the people I coach.
Mental Resilience
I am always focused on what's next and what can be done. It is easy to dwell on setbacks, frustrations, and the challenges that life throws at all of us, but progress rarely comes from looking backwards.
EHT is about sticking to the plan through the hard times, trusting the process, and understanding that meaningful results are built through consistent effort over time. Things will not always go perfectly, but they can always move forward.
Respect and self-discipline
I have worked with an incredibly diverse range of clients, and I have learned that every person brings their own story, challenges, goals, and circumstances. Respecting that individuality is a top priority for me so you can feel comfortable, supported, and capable of succeeding while in a positive environment built around you.
Discipline is a core value of mine in the way I live and coach. It is important to me that I lead by example and follow the same standards that I encourage in others. I do not believe in asking clients to commit to habits, behaviours, or training principles that I am not willing to uphold myself. My approach to training is built on structure, intent, discipline, and accountability. I train with purpose, and I encourage my clients to bring that same discipline to their own training, not out of pressure, but because meaningful progress comes from showing up with clarity, consistency, and care.
